For me, creating ceramics has become part of my daily life, and over the past decade has become an increasingly important focus for my creativity and wellbeing.

My inspiration comes from the contrasting natural textures and mechanical forms I most frequently see within the Welsh landscapes I’m drawn to explore, the associated historical industries of these areas, and also other areas of the UK when I travel further afield.

Whilst I do some form of making most days, when I’m not in the studio I’m usually out walking in the hills around my home or the nearby Welsh mountains. I feel particularly blessed to have such amazing landscapes so close to where I live and work, and I feel growing up and being absorbed in such a wonderfully inspiring natural environment has allowed me to develop my creative processes over the last decade and to launch my career at just 17 years.

About me

Close-up of a carved ceramic sculpture featuring an outer ring of dark blue, with a clockwise spiralling design, and a pale beige inner circle featuring an anticlockwise spiralling design, with small oval holes carved through the hollow sculpture.

I work in many different types of clay but have strong preference for those with groggy textures which help me to capture the essence of the natural rock formations that so often inspire me.

My pieces often combine my interpretations of natural and man-made forms and lend themselves to minimalistic glazing and colour choices, allowing the textures of the clay to show through in my use of oxides, and for patterns and elements to be emphasised by the transitions into glazed areas.

Whether it be a piece inspired by water movement, mechanics or mountains, I hope to bring a little of the joy I experience through time spent outdoors and through my creative processes to others who view or display my work.
